This course is a one-session introduction to kayaking for youth aged 8 to 14 taught by Alberta Whitewater Association certified instructors and monitored by pool lifeguards.

 

In this class you'll learn the basics:

  • The names of the parts of a kayak
  • How to enter and exit the boat,
  • How to properly grip the paddle,
  • How to wet exit (get out of an overturned kayak), and

You'll also learn the basic paddling strokes:

  • Forward stroke and
  • Sweep stroke.

Duration: 1.0 hours

Location: Scona Pool

Equipment: Kayak, spraydeck and paddle provided.  You will need swimming gear  ( nose plugs & goggles are recommended, but not required).

 

Max 10 students

Price: TBA  -  club membership not required, but parental consent/waiver must be completed.

Sundays   6:00 - 7:00 PM
